Illinois Sees Largest Increase In Fatalities From COVID-19; 43% Of Those Surveyed Last Week Recovering

The fight against COVID-19 continues, as Illinois saw its largest death increase with 73 Illinoisans dying yesterday and over 1200 new cases in the State. The Governor announced information on what the capacity was at right now for hospital beds stating that in all of Illinois totals 35% of all ICU beds available and 57% of ventilators are still available.

Testing was brought up as well. Governor Pritzker stated that while the South Korea model is fantastic, no state would be able to do the testing right now the way they do there but the hope is that eventually, Illinois can.

Dr. Ngozi Ezike announced that there are 13,549 total cases including 380 deaths in 77 counties. Dr. Ezike says the state is doing a good job preparing for the peak of this virus and there is a little glimmer of good news: Out of those who returned the survey, 43% are recovering only a week after being diagnosed.

Dr. Ezike says the more people are infected, the more the virus can be spread too.
